Bringing together some of the best emerging artists and curators that Brisbane has to offer, artist run initiative, In Residence is hosting its first exhibition this weekend , and we're feeling pretty excited about it.
In Residence was founded by Meg Slater, Miranda Hine, Sarah Thomson and Isabel Hood as a means to promote the written and physical work of young creatives living in Brisbane, Australia and abroad via an exhibition series and an online publication.
Their upcoming exhibition, 'Shift 1', is the first of a two part series that will focus on artworks that address the themes of physical, social and psychological displacement.
Featuring the work of four artists from diverse cultural and creative backgrounds, the exhibition will explore this concept across mediums, with works responding to the stimulus through sculpture, video, multimedia installation and textiles.
On the night you can expect to see works that tackle the conceptually complex issues of cultural heritage, self-identification and ‘other’ by artists such as Ahmed Idam Adam, Ebony Harrison, Emily McGuire and Annelize Mulder.

Ahmed Idam is a Maldivian born multi-disciplinary designer whose work frequently transcends mediums. Adam’s artwork featured at “Shift 1” will reflect on his cultural heritage and his most recent trip to the Maldives using a mix of photography, digital media and sculpture.

Ebony Harrison (aka Bones)is a Brisbane based digital designer interested in alternative mediums of communication, glitch work and datamoshing. Her work focuses on decolonisation and the rejection of assimilation. As an Anglo-Indian, Bones' work transpires from an understanding of herself as a 'glitch' in the colonial system.
Emily McGuire / Problematique / 2015 / Thread
QUT graduate Emily McGuire is a fashion designer, writer, and early-career researcher in contemporary fashion practice. Her work explores the complex relationship between fashion, female identity and digital visual culture.
Annelize Mulder / The Spare Room 2015 / Cardboard and wood / 235cm x 205cm x 180cm
Annelize Mulder is a recent graduate of the Queensland College of Art. Mulder's practice communicates, through sculpture, the difficulties of re-establishing an identity after immigration.
With each artist bringing their own unique style to the table, this is definitely not an event to be missed. The exhibition will run for one night only from 6pm till 10pm on 2 April 2016 at 28 Morris Street in Paddington.
